Sharon Lampke

Sharon Lampke is an oil painter from Charlotte, NC, and creates vibrant landscape paintings of the marshes and mountains of the Carolinas.

She attended UNC-Charlotte, where she first pursued a Fine Art Education degree, then studied Graphic Design. Prior to pursuing her current career in painting, she worked as a corporate Senior Graphic Designer, operated a freelance design business, and raised four children.

Sharon resumed her education in oil painting in 2004 with Andy Braitman, and in 2018 began intensively pursuing her craft and was an “Artist in Residence” at Braitman Studios. Since, she has served as an instructor at Braitman, teaching introductory adult painting classes and workshops.

She is currently a member of StudioWorks Artist Collective + Gallery, where she works from a studio in Charlotte’s historic Dilworth neighborhood, and hosts visitors for monthly First Friday South End Gallery Crawls. Sharon also exhibits artwork at Carlton Gallery in Banner Elk, NC, and Island Art Gallery in Pawleys Island, SC. She is a member of the Guild of Charlotte Artists where she has participated in a number of group shows, and has also exhibited work at Christ Church Gallery in Charlotte, NC.

Artist’s Statement

Those who know me might describe me as a driven person, and that is apparent in my work. It’s a very deliberate process of trying to tell you so much information and dialogue with you through imagery and color. I am emoting and expressing with the paint, but also trying to comfort and calm and bring order/peace to the (seeming) chaos. I strive to make you fall in love (with the painting) and bring the joy and satisfaction that comes with a visual experience that touches the heart.

My inspiration starts with nature: how light hits or reflects, how reflections create patterns, how patterns create soothing rhythms, peace.

Ultimately, I love the process of painting, of building the image, and exploring color. I love interacting with the progression of the image as it changes layer by layer. I want your eyes to dance with me around the canvas, comforted here, shocked there, intrigued. My spirit gets tangled up in the paint and reaches out to you.
